Basmati 1847 is a modern, improved form of the famous variety Kissan Basmati 1509, developed through marker-assisted breeding (not genetic modification) to add disease resistance.

🛡️ Natural Disease Resistance

Basmati 1847 carries two resistance genes each for bacterial blight (xa13, Xa21) and blast / jhulsao (Pi2, Pi54). Because this resistance is built into the variety, spending on fungicide and antibiotic sprays for these two diseases is greatly reduced.

⏱️ Short Duration Crop

The variety completes its cycle from seed to seed in approximately 120 to 125 days. After transplanting the nursery into the field, it matures in only 90 to 95 days.

💧 Water Saving

Because of its short maturity period, it needs less water in the final days, which makes it suitable for water-scarce areas. Its short duration also allows cultivation after wheat harvest or with delayed sowing.

🌱 Short Stature and Lodging Resistant

Its short, strong stature resists lodging. The plant does not fall even in strong winds and storms, preventing crop loss. It also produces more tillers, which increases the number of panicles per acre and overall yield.

📊 Average Yield

Under normal conditions this variety can produce an average of 60 to 65 maunds per acre. With good care and balanced fertilizer use, average yield can reach up to 70 maunds per acre. It yields approximately 15 to 20 maunds per acre more than its predecessor variety 1509.

🍚 Superior Grain Quality

Raw grain length is approximately 8.51 mm, the hallmark of premium basmati rice. After cooking, the grain extends to approximately 16.69 mm and grains remain separate. Like traditional basmati, this variety is full of fine fragrance, aroma and excellent taste. Grains do not shatter on their own when the crop matures, preventing loss during harvesting.
